Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic forced transformation of teaching and learning in higher education, with applied, practical courses such as sport and exercise science being particularly affected. In this chapter we discuss how the initial emergency response to this situation, namely virtual learning, developed into an adapted, proactive blended learning approach to the present day. Specifically, we detail how our initial efforts to provide a suitable active learning experience and movement into a blended approach tracked our developing understanding of how we may best work proactively under this banner on wider applied, practical-based courses. Ultimately, the chapter goes full circle and utilises an existing framework to conclude that the most transformative teaching can be distilled to simple ideas.
