Abstract
The article examines the efficacy of exercise referral schemes (ERS) for increasing physical activity (PA) levels and facilitating positive treatment outcomes. It argues that the uptake and adherence to exercise referral schemes may be improved by grounding them in contextually appropriate theory. It discusses the potential of social identity approach to inform the delivery and effectiveness of exercise referral schemes.
