Abstract
This chapter presents the experiences of deportability of Polish prisoners incarcerated in the North of Ireland. Based on the author's doctoral research, it discussed the prisoners' feelings of uncertainty and anxieties created by the prospect of being removed from the UK post-sentence. The chapter argues that the ever-present threat of expulsion experienced by foreign national prisoners needs to be defined as a distinct pain of imprisonment (Sykes 1958) in contemporary prisons.
