The problem of incontinence in 2006

The article reflects on the editorial "The Problem of Incontinence," by James P. Smith, published in the 1982 issue of the "Journal of Advanced Nursing." The editorial was prompted by a workshop held in 1981 which discovered healthcare professionals' lack of knowledge about the prevalence of incontinence and its management. Twenty years after this editorial, clinical practice and research on incontinence become evident.
