Abstract

This chapter examines the social, political and community role of the Galic Athletic Association (GAA) during the conflict in the North of Ireland. It establishes the longer term historical context of the organisation as a vital element of community life and then sets out the backdrop to the circumstances of the conflict that saw so many members of the GAA lose their lives.
