Abstract
Hunter composed the musical score and lyrics (Mel Bowen composed one song); Cottrell Boyce wrote the play, which was braodcast on BBC Radio 4. This project continues Hunter’s interests, as a creative artist, in the dialogue between literary (dramatic) and musical forms. Traditionally music illustrates a play by underlying moods and actions, but here the songs underpin the story, so the play can be viewed more as a musical. The score provides audiences with a new experience that sits outside the usual take on Merseybeat. The soundtrack explores the subversive role of music, while reconnecting audiences to a historical period.
