Abstract
This essay examines the Trump administration's policies on immigration, mass migration, refugees, and humanitarian responses to external disasters. His hostility towards undocumented immigrants in the United States is discussed, including the revocation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programme for undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children.
The essay argues that Trump's hardline policies on Mexican immigration risk harming cooperation between U.S. and Mexican authorities on combating drugs cartels, leading to a breakdown of law and order in Mexican states bordering the U.S. with the danger of a 'failed state' in the region.
Other topics include Trump's demonization of minorities (immigrants, Muslims, refugees) and his equivocal response to hate crimes. Risks associated with these policies are systematically identified.
