Abstract

One in five children in England and Wales is now identified as having a SEND, and consequently teachers of PE are facing daily challenges to facilitate pupils’ accessibility and entitlement to inclusion within mainstream school contexts. Offering a combination of theoretical and practical strategies to include children with SEND within lessons, this unique title: • directly applies current research to the practice of including children with SEND in PE; • offers an outline of the statutory responsibilities placed upon teachers and schools to include children with SEND in PE; • covers a diverse range of issues, which teachers need to address in order to provide high quality learning experiences for children with SEND; • includes a series of reflective tasks, extended reading and further contacts within each chapter to assist with the development of knowledge and understanding of SEND and PE. This authoritative book offers an opportunity to explore in depth the complexities of including children with SEND in PE. This is an extensive resource that requires no prior knowledge of the topic and is essential reading for practitioners who want to involve all children in physical activities and education.
