Abstract
‘The Mission of Integration’ a Deleuzoguattarian interpretation of fundamental British values
In her 2018 speech to the Policy Exchange think tank Amanda Spielman, HM Chief Inspector of Education stated that fundamental British values were central to the ‘mission of integration’. Using Deleuze and Guattari’s concept of the White Man face, and data collected through interviews with BAME students and teachers, I argue that British values operate to discipline and reintegrate student and teacher subjects who do not conform to the norms of state sanctioned British identity. The paper calls for antiracist educational alliances that question the power structures that give rise to the racial politics of the White Man face.
