title = "Swadesh in the Sahara: Lexicostatistical lists in Berber/Amazigh languages and their loan components",
abstract = "This paper examines lexicostatistical Swadesh lists among a range of Amazigh ('Berber') languages of North Africa, paying especial attention to loan elements (most of them from Arabic) on these. It demonstrates that the proportion of borrowed elements is extremely high, and that more than 50\% of the gloss items on the combined Swadesh lists are expressed by a loan element in at least one of the surveyed Amazigh languages.",
