    Abstract

On the eve of the signing of the Good Friday Agreement, Kyle Morrow, comes out as gay to his staunchly Presbyterian mother who demands he leave the house. Kyle refuses, barricade himself into his bedroom and goes on hunger strike until his mother changes her mind. Smilin' Through is an irreverent, allegorical, queer take on The Troubles.
