Abstract
Seán Henry’s doctoral thesis brought philosophy of education into conversation with queer theology to theorise LGBTQ+ inclusion in Jewish, Christian, and Muslim schooling. In this chapter, Henry reflects on the implications of his doctoral studies for those engaging in research on Catholic education. He begins with an overview of the personal and contextual factors that triggered his research in this area, before distilling the key insights and ‘impact’ of the study itself. From here, Henry offers some reflections on the kinds of methodological considerations he would recommend doctoral researchers to reflect on when engaging with Catholic education. He focuses especially on the theoretical implications of working with queer theology, as well as the methodological implications of translation as a specific approach to constructing theory at the nexus between education and theology.
