Abstract

COVID-19 has had a considerable impact on the private rented sector in the UK. This paper examines the current state of the private rented sector, including key statistics and outcomes, and explores the measures Governments have taken to attempt to prevent a crisis in the PRS. The paper examines the likely impact of the pandemic on the future of the sector, and puts forward urgent recommendations for change, including a grant scheme for renters. This scheme is necessary to ensure renters are not left behind in debt due to no fault of their own; this scheme would ensure renters were able to level up as the country evolves from the pandemic's impact.
