On April 17, 1981, Le Monde published an open letter to the candidates for the presidential election in France, concerning the hunger strike begun 15 days ago by Hamid Boukhrouma, an Algerian immigrant awaiting expulsion from French territory, the priest Christian Delorme and the pastor Jean Costil in Lyon, against what is now called the double penalty.
