Abstract

This chapter explores the need to incorporate maths and English in further education teaching. It focuses on the key features of embedding and the need to enthuse learners by drawing on personal goals to ensure learning is both relevant and inspirational. The chapter provides an overview of embedding English and maths within a variety of vocational subjects. It covers the following: *Getting to know your students *Identifying aspects of English and maths and emphasising what students can do *Building on students’ strengths and utilising their ambitions and personal interests *Supporting and rewarding progress *Building confidence and self-esteem *Being inclusive *Identifying areas for improvement *Building on experience.
