Abstract
This paper reports on the Chief Nursing Officer for England?s summit, which took place in Birmingham in March 2019, providing the opportunity for the senior nursing, midwifery and care leadership community to share, listen and learn from each other, and to consider the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The paper critically explores the national challenges and opportunities associated contextualising the implementation of the Nursing and Midwifery Council standards of proficiency for registered nurses, using the University of Salford as an example.
