Abstract
In this issue, the International Journal of Emergency Services (IJES) has published seven original articles exploring key issues facing emergency ambulance, police and fire and rescue services globally, covering four continents. Out of the seven articles, six papers address important topics within the emergency medical services (EMS) domain, notably paramedics’ attitudes toward elderly patients’ self-determination, leaving intentions in ambulance personnel, the impact of social media on trust and legitimacy in policing, joining intentions for firefighters, unmanned aerial vehicles for search/recovery operations and building defence shelters. The final paper covers the important issue of building community resilience. All the papers importantly contribute to the body of knowledge in the field of emergency services management, thereby improving scholarly and practitioner understanding of the field (Wankhade and Murphy, 2023).
