Abstract
Dance movement therapy (DMT) (or dance/movement therapy as it is
known in the USA) is the youngest of the arts therapies disciplines to be
established as a distinctive modality. Despite its newness, the field has its
own history, ways of working and certain tendencies for practitioners to
engage with certain client groups in specific environments. In this chapter,
we will provide an historical overview, describe current practice within the
DMT field in the UK, and identify prevalent areas of work. Wherever relevant we will also highlight differences from other arts therapies.
