Abstract

This paper analyses changes in work organisation at the Volvo Cab Plant in Umeå, Sweden in order to identify those contingent elements that impact upon the choices made in selecting specific production technologies. It suggests that managerial decision making is not necessarily located within rational or business enhancement paradigms.
