Abstract

The article offers information on bicarbonate and citrate supplementation. It reveals that bicarbonate and citrate loading increases the extracellular buffering capacity of the muscles and their ability to dispose excess hydrogen ions. The article discusses various bicarbonate and citrate supplement products and protocols, and the concerns associated with bicarbonate and citrate supplementation which include the occurrence of gastrointestinal distress and the supplements' side effects.
