Abstract

In this collection of short stories, writers were commissioned and partnered with sleep scientists to explore a variety of scientific research and theories relating to sleep and dreaming. Each story is accompanied by an afterword from the scientific consultant. In 'Benzene Dreams', in collaboration with sleep scientist Professor Robert Stickgold, Schofield explores contemporary theories about dreaming functioning as a way for the brain to problem solve, and whether an app could be created to facilitate and enhance this ability. The story also explores the ethics and potential problems that could arise with such a technology.
