Abstract
The relationship between the Sufi tradition and the different schools of Islamic theology is one of the more challenging terrains of Islamic intellectual history. This paper explores this through a close look at the curriculum vitae and theological writings of the seventeenth century scholar and mystic Ibrāhīm al-Kūrānī (d.1019/1690). It aims to address the difficult nature of the relationship with the school of theology Ashʿarism, but as advocates of what they perceived to be the original teachings of the Ashʿarī school.
