Abstract
Art therapy, or as it is also known, art psychotherapy, (AT) was the first of
the arts therapies to form a professional association in the UK and, alongside music therapy (MT), to achieve professional recognition and conditions of work. Furthermore, the British Association of Art Therapists
(BAAT) is currently the largest arts therapies professional body. In this
chapter, historical and current developments will be discussed, AT will be
defined, and current therapeutic trends and some AT approaches will be
delineated.
