Abstract
This paper will explore the life and career of James W. Upton, journalist, revolutionary and editor. Upton will be demonstrated to be one of the most important figures in Irish journalism in the first quarter of the 20th century. Chronicling Ireland's road to independence and challenging the orthodoxies of the fledgeling Irish state.
