Description
Transforming Adult Learner Lives Australia (TALLA) draws inspiration from the Transforming Further Education: Empowering People & Communities research in the United Kingdom (Duckworth & Smith, 2018). This research examines the impact and power of adult education through learner and teacher stories, fostering hope and inspiring change in learners’ lives, families and communities. The research identified that removing the apparent barriers to participation in education is not a simple step, but it is vital to addressing intergenerational poverty and the transmission of inequality and its impact across generations of the same family (Duckworth & Smith, 2018). Education not only helps individuals escape poverty by empowering them to develop the skills they need to improve their livelihoods, their families and communities but it also generates productivity gains that boost economic growth. For growth to reduce poverty, however, it needs to focus on overcoming inequality by improving the lives of the poorest and those most marginalised.
