Teaching Integrative Educational Leadership

Project Details

Description

This paper discusses the search for a leadership framework that integrates various theories of educational leadership. It initially compares two textbooks, Bush's ‘Theories of Educational Leadership and Management’ and Arar & Oplatka's ‘Advanced Theories of Educational Leadership,’ highlighting their different approaches to leadership theory amid the challenge of theoretical proliferation and fragmentation. The text explores the challenges of teaching multiple leadership theories in postgraduate courses and the need for a more integrative approach. It delves into Bush's evolving theories of educational leadership and management over several editions, appraising its principles in terms of Middle Way philosophy and proposes several transdisciplinary models of integration to support the teaching of integrative educational leadership in a way which enhances the task of practitioner synthesis.
