Project Details
Description
International Baccalaureate (Singapore) commissioned this evaluation from the University of Auckland - I was its co-Director. The evaluation was based on a national survey, two comprehensive school case studies and a comparative analysis with there NZ National Curriculum.
Key findings
The evaluation found the IB to offer a substantive alternative to the NZNC in terms of a principles-led and enquiry-based curriculum, school-based curriculum development, and whole-school change. The enquiry-based element reflected reflected some aspirations and guides in the NZNC as increasingly common practice in NZ primary schools. Extensive data from classroom observations and student interviews showed levels of sophistication and maturity from those students who were fully engaged with the curriculum.
