Personal profile
Biography
I am a network creator bridging academia and specific employability skills development for students through both internal and external projects to facilitate co-created and inclusive learning. Continual collaborations with third sector and public sector bodies enables the development of 'live projects' providing an authentic experience for students in positioning behaviour change techniques to help solve specific issues with seldom heard communities for the client. The dissemination of ideas is delivered through assessment of the created social marketing campaigns enriching the undergraduate and postgraduate experience and links with the client.
Following completion of a PhD in E-Research and Technology Enhanced Learning, I have become an advocate for inclusive learning with a special interest in breaking down the dyslexic barrier. With publications and conference papers in the use of multi-sensory and AI technologies to create an inclusive learning environment, I am particularly interested in the use auditory and visual prompts in learning. Through my own practice of helping dyslexic students in the Business School, results show these approaches build confidence and improve learning and assessment outcomes. These methods have opened up discussions and research opportunities in multi-disciplinary areas.
I have been working in the higher education sector as a Senior Lecturer within the Business School for over 20 years following a corporate life as a Marketing Director for retail and commercial publishing groups. I am the Founder of the Lancashire Defibrillator Campaign which is a recipient of the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service and which enables me to provide CPR and defibrillator training for staff and students across the University. I am an ambassador for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, a motor neuron charity raising the profile of the disease and much needed funds to establish a cure. I am the University link and volunteer for Ormskirk Park Run which operates weekly on the campus. I have previously held office as a Borough Councillor in two local government districts and have strong links with public and voluntary sector groups in the area. I am a former Trustee of the West Lancashire Council for Voluntary Service and a Governor of North West Ambulance Service.
My current research focuses on social marketing particularly for disadvantaged groups and is linked to special interest with third sector organisations. This encapsulates my outside interests with my academic interests. I am also engaged with research into marketing education in particular where skills can be enhanced and enriched through inclusive, simulated and experiential learning.
