    Biography

    Dr Siobhan Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Law. Siobhan joined Edge Hill University in September 2024, and currently teaches Law of Evidence, Criminal Law, Tort Law and Contract Law. She previously worked as a Senior Lecturer in Law at Sheffield Hallam University, and as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Manchester and the University of Salford. She has also worked as a Research Fellow in Public International Law at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, and also completed an Economic and Social Research Council funded internship at the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack during this time. 

    Siobhan completed her LLB(Hons) at Lancaster University in 2012, receiving the William Charnley Prize for Best Third Year Law Student. In 2013, she obtained a Distinction in an LLM in International Human Rights Law and Terrorism at Lancaster University. She was awarded Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funding for her PhD, also undertaken at Lancaster University and completed in 2019. Siobhan has also completed the Bar Professional Training Course, and is a Member of Lincoln's Inn.

    Research interests

    Her research interest focuses firstly on Public International Law. This first aspect of her research looks at International Human Rights Law, and more specifically the realisation of the right to education during armed conflict situations, and her research also examines the simultaneous protection of education during armed conflict situations within International Humanitarian Law and International Criminal Law. 

    Siobhan is also interested in research in the area of Criminal Law, and more specifically in the context of human rights issues within the criminal justice system, particularly in regard to the right to education.
