I am a media and communication scholar with expertise in migration, diasporas, transnational mobilities and nationalism. I am interested in the way media and communication technologies support and enhance practices of mobility, border crossing and cosmopolitanism. Some of my research focuses on the potential of social media to support the political engagement and activism of marginalized groups, particularly diasporas. I also research the impact of public debate and media discourse on migration policy, with particular application to Eastern Europe. My research has a strong political communication component, in that it sees media as an important conduit in framing mobility as a political issue. My work also engages with the post-colonial context of Eastern Europe, read through the lens of media, creative arts and political discourse.
