Pui Sze Cheung is an IACAT and HCPC registered music therapist and health researcher with extensive experience in arts and health. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and completed an MA in Music Therapy and a PhD focusing on music therapy and perinatal mental health from the University of Limerick. Funded by Healthy Ireland and the Department of Health, Pui Sze pioneered Ireland’s first music therapy service for perinatal mental health at the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service at University Maternity Hospital Limerick, HSE. She also serves as the Health-based Creative Health Associate at NHS Mersey Care for the Arts4Us project at the Research Centre for Arts and Wellbeing, working together to scale up place-based arts initiatives that support the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people aged 9-13.
Pui Sze's clinical experience spans from the beginning of life to the end of life, including working with new parents, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults with mental health challenges, neurodegenerative disease, and intellectual and physical disabilities. Alongside her clinical practice, Pui Sze has led and been involved in various perinatal music therapy and arts and health projects across Ireland and the UK, including Music and Perinatal Wellbeing, Mothers Using Music (MuM), and Music and Movement for Health projects at University of LImerick. Pui Sze also delivers lectures and provides supervision for the MA Music Therapy at UL and the MSc Psychotherapy and Counselling (Contemporary Creative Approaches) at EHU. Her scholarly contributions include one book chapter and 17 peer-reviewed journal articles. She is a member of the Research Centre for Arts and Wellbeing at EHU, the Music and Parental Wellbeing Research Network, and Musical Care International Network.
