    Personal profile

    Biography

I am a Senior Fellow of the HEA and have lectured in both France and the UK.

My professional experience includes clinical nursing, health visiting, occupational health, strategic public health and health service research. I am currently consolidating my knowledge through doctoral studies with the University of Manchester, in nursing and public health.

I have a specific interest in developing the health creation agenda in pre-registration nursing. I am a member of the Health Creation Alliance and the PerCIE Steering Group. The aim of my doctoral research is to explore the lived experience of nurses who describe themselves as actively engaged in health promotion to understand the factors which have influenced their professional practice. This will help us to better prepare nursing students for their role in health promotion after graduation.

We need to shift the paradigm from disease focussed care, to patient focussed care. We will only impact health inequalities by listening to what is important to the person, building on individual and community assets and acknowledging the wider context in which people live, work and grow.

I moved into nursing education in 2014, with a brief to improve public health and evidence-based learning in the undergraduate nursing programme. I participated in the implementation of the French "Service Sanitaire", an alternative community project placement to provide health promotion experience to undergraduates in medicine and allied health.
