    Biography

    Nonso is a Reader in Computer Science whose work focuses on Artificial Intelligence and data-driven technologies, with particular interests in developing responsible and applied AI solutions to complex real-world challenges.

    He has an established track record of research leadership and external collaboration, contributing to major UK and European research and innovation programmes and leading projects that connect academic research with industry and public-sector needs. His experience includes European-funded projects such as CROSSMINER and ALFIE, the Innovate UK-funded CyberSignature project, and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships through which he has led the translation of AI and data research into practical applications.

    Beyond project leadership, Nonso contributes to the wider UK research landscape through research evaluation and assessment, including membership of the UKRI and EPSRC Peer Review Colleges and participation in the REF 2029 People, Culture and Environment pilot for Computer Science and Informatics (UoA 11). He also contributes to institutional preparations for REF 2029.

    A key strand of his current work is building external partnerships that strengthen research excellence and translate research into regional and societal impact. He works collaboratively with local authorities, NHS partners, industry and other organisations to develop research around real-world challenges and opportunities for data-driven innovation.

    Nonso is committed to developing collaborative and interdisciplinary research and welcomes opportunities to work with academic, industry, healthcare and public-sector partners, nationally and internationally.

    Research interests

    Nonso is actively engaged in cutting-edge research within the area of Multimodal Artificial Intelligence. This has resulted in leadership & participation in various funded research projects centered around Big Data analytics, Natural Language Processing, Image Processing, Software Engineering, Computational Linguistics, and Healthcare Informatics.
