Biography
Nick Hulbert-Williams is a Charted Coaching Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He completed his first degree in Psychology with Clinical and Health Psychology from the University of Wales (Bangor), and was awarded his PhD by Cardiff University School of Medicine in 2009. Following lectureships at the University of Wolverhampton and University of Chester, he was awarded his Personal Chair in Behavioural Medicine (at Chester) in 2015. Nick moved to Edge Hill in April 2022 to take up the post of Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology. He holds an Adjunct Professorship at Flinders University in Australia.
Nick is a health psychology researcher, with a specific focus on the psychological impact of cancer for those living with illness themselves, their families and support network, and their healthcare providers. Nick's work explores how we best undertand who is more at risk of their psychological wellbeing being negatively affected by cancer, and how we can use psychological theory to develop effective interventions to support them better, and improve healthcare services.
Over his career, Nick has co-authored 75 peer-reviewed journal articles and 9 book chapters. He has been awarded over £5.6million in grants for research funding, including awards from North West Cancer Research, the NIHR, Marie Curie and the EPSRC. In 2022, Nick received the North West Cancer Research Advocacy Award for his work into psychosocial aspects of cancer survivorship.
