Biography

After completing BEng (Mechanical Engineering), from NED University, Karachi Pakistan, Dr Tahir worked for about 9 years in a private sector in a manufacturing workshop equipped with CNC Lathe, CNC Milling, Vertical turning machines. He has experience of using G-codes, Sinumeric system for almost every type of CNC machines’ programming including 5 axis milling machines.

Dr Tahir believes in continuous career progression, He decided to progress his career in higher education after years of hands-on experience in industry. He did master’s in mechanical engineering (Design) from Linkoping University Sweden, and right after that started a PhD in Aerospace Engineering with focus on the Lightweight structure at KTH, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. After successfully completing PhD, he joined an exciting project for the development of smart actuators for robots. After 15 months, he was appointed as an Associate Senior Lecturer in the same department. In September 2017 he was offered an exciting position at Gestamp Hard Tech Lulea Sweden as a senior researcher in CFRP composite materials. There he worked in various exciting projects involving use of CFRP composite in automobiles and CFRP-Steel hybrid materials. He supervised an industrial PhD about the modelling of Sheet Moulding Compound composites’ processing for automobile structural parts. In September 2018, he got an offer to work in an interesting project for embedding the fibre optic sensors in composites structures and utilizing them for the monitoring of infusion process for large structures like offshore Wind Turbine Blades. There he worked with highly motivated research groups from The University of Sheffield, The University of Durham and The University of Hull as well as Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy R & D team in Aalborg Denmark and their team in England. After completing his contract at The University of Hull, Dr Tahir got an exciting position at the Edge Hill University as a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering to join the vibrant team for the development of the Engineering Department.
