Biography
Prior to joining Edge Hill as Senior Lecturer in Primary Education, Matthew gained seventeen years’ teaching experience in the primary sector. Matthew has taught in both key stages, across all year groups and has been subject leader for Mathematics, P.E. and English. Matthew also has extensive experience working on leadership and safeguarding teams and on school governing bodies.
Since joining Edge Hill University, Matthew has undertaken the role of deputy subject leader for primary English and subject leader for primary SSP.
Matthew is also currently studying for a PGCert.
Teaching
Matthew teaches across all programmes spanning Level 4 - Level 7 at Edge Hill including the BA (Hons) Primary Education and Primary PGCE programmes. Matthew’s teaching incorporates primary English, SSP and classroom practice.
Matthew is also module leader for various modules on the BA (Hons) Primary Education programme.
Research interests
Matthew holds research interests in digital literacy and diversity and inclusion within contemporary children's literature.
External engagement
Knowledge exchange and sharing of best practice in primary English and SSP with colleagues in partner schools.
