    Biography

    Dr. Maria Reraki is a Senior Lecturer in Education at Edge Hill University.

    Maria's first degree is in English Language and Literature (BA Hons) from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. After a few years of teaching English she gained her Master's in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL) to learners with dyslexia from the University of Edinburgh. In 2016 she completed her PhD at the University of Manchester, along with a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Research Methods.

    Maria's research and international work are deeply committed to the intersection of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) inclusion and English as an Additional Language (EAL). Maria serves as a Co-Investigator for the evaluation of the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Support Model Pilot in collaboration with University College Cork, Ireland. She is also a Co-Investigator for the VOICES Ed project ("Visualising Opportunities: Inclusion for Children, Education and Society"). Maria has supervised research on international topics like teaching English for deaf children in Kenya or using creative drama for ADHD learners in Algeria.

    Maria has acted as a Departmental Representative for "Study in Greece," where she facilitated mobility between UK and Greek higher education institutions. She is a member of the European Second Language Association (ESLA) and has published comparative research on inclusive practices in Spain and England. Within her department, she provides leadership as the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Staff Lead and the Research in Progress Seminars Lead. Maria also serves as an External Examiner for multiple UK institutions and is an active member of professional organizations including the Alliance for Inclusive Education (ALLFIE) and NASEN.
