    Personal profile

    Biography

I am a current PhD research student and Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Psychology, working towards the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education.

Currently, as my PhD project, I am working on exploring the effect of teacher's messages on student's maths engagement and achievement - with Dr Laura Nicholson (Director of Studies) and Dr Adam Qureshi.

    Research interests

My research intrests broadly explor how students' perception of different aspects of school life affect their performance and outcome, and to what extent by improving these aspects we can improve students' performance. More specificly, how students perceive teachers' messages in the classroom, whether their motivational orientation affect their perception, and how this perception affect their performance.

I am also interested in philosophy of education, how it affects school climate, and eventually students performance.

    Teaching

Back home in Iran, I had been a teacher, counsellor, and educational administrator in high school for 7 years, which mostly shaped my research interests.

The modules I currently teach on are:

PSY1112: Introduction to Cognitive and Biological Psychology
