I am a registered midwife who has worked clinically across the country in a variety of midwifery practice areas. I trained as a direct entry midwife, gaining a first class honours degree from Canterbury Christ Church University before working as a rotational staff midwife at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. During which time I achieved my band 6 status and took a core position within Antenatal Clinic with a focus on vulnerable women.
An opportunity then presented to relocate and become a caseloading midwife with One to One Midwives NW which, over time enabled me to adopt a managerial position and later a clinical triaging post within the company. I began guest lecturing at this time across multiple NW based HEIs and then went on to accept a Midwifery Practice Education Lecturer role at Edge Hill University. Whilst carrying out additional roles such as Skills & Simulation Lead, Service Users & Carer Lead, Practice Learning Representative I have completed a PCGTHE and have enjoyed leading on the Service User consultation rounds in response to changing NMC standards. These roles have allowed me to express and impliment multiple examples of teaching innovation across our programmes.
I now lead on the student support and quality assurance of our practice placement areas in collaboration with a wider Practice Learning lecturer team. I am however, continuing to have a research focus on optimising student support, pepardness to practice and the teaching strategies of clinical skills.
