    Biography

    Kenny is an Associate Head of Early Years Department in the Faculty of Education.  Kenny is responsible for Learning, Teaching, Assessment and the Student Experience and is interested in pedagogy and applied practice in all such settings that include all the above in education.  Kenny was also an Institutional Fellow for the University and is a Senior Fellow of the HEA. 

    Before this role, Kenny worked in the Faculty of Arts and Science and was a former Programme Leader for Sports Coaching related degrees at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.  Kenny was a Senior Lecturer in Sports Coaching and joined Edge Hill in September 2008 and has experience both coaching and playing at a professional and semi-professional level.  Kenny coaches primarily with football players within the specific ages of 17 and above whilst continuing to educate students, coaches and players at all settings.

    Kenny has educated professional players, coached and scouted in Professional League football and previously worked at The FA as a Coach Educator aiding those players/coaches in grassroots football right through to elite level performance. Kenny is interested in improving the quality of both players and coaches at the respective ages and levels noted above, as well as the education of students and their attainment at respective levels within both education and teaching. Kenny additionally holds the prestigious UEFA A Licence coaching qualification and the FA Youth Award, holds coaching and mentor qualifications as well as educational qualifications at HE and beyond.

    Research interests

    Kenny’s research interests focus on the application between coaching pedagogy and practice, as well as the pedagogy, applied practice and understanding within educational settings.  Kenny’s interests lie within areas of pedagogical practice and application to enhance understanding in a coaching setting and elite level coaching practice, as well as learning and teaching in applied educational settings (all levels including HE).

    This interest has led to research and conference attendance and delivery contributions covering coach learning within elite coach education and practice to SPLISS, and coach learning in ‘Elite Coach Education for the European Sports Development Network Conference (ESDN).

    Teaching

    Kenny’s professional experience includes 20 years teaching in a variety of settings at HE including all postgraduate levels (PGCert, MA and PhD) as well as all undergraduate levels and also those within FE and external, including mentoring/tutoring and coaching at all levels of elite, educational and community for approximately 25 years.   Kenny is credited with an in-depth knowledge of learning, teaching and coaching in relation to both policy and practice and is passionate about the student and learner experience.  Kenny has an extensive teaching and coaching background, understanding of pedagogy and practice in management and development and his academic knowledge of supervision, accreditation and endorsements alongside his teaching give him both the practical and professional expertise to lead and deliver high quality teaching and learning in the department and faculty.
