Biography
Jimmy O’Gorman is a Senior Lecturer in Sports Development, Management and Coaching in the Department of Sport and Physical Activity where he teaches on the undergraduate Sports Development, Management and Coaching, and the MSc Sport, Physical Activity and Mental Health programmes. He is a practicing professional academy football coach, and holds the UEFA B license, the FA Youth Award, Futsal and talent identification qualifications.
He joined Edge Hill in 2008 having worked at Staffordshire University as a research assistant (2006-2007).
Research interests
Jimmy’s research is underpinned by sociological and political science perspectives and focuses on the welfare and well-being of sports workers, coach education, and the development, implementation, and enactment of sport policy and programmes, ranging from community/grassroots to participation and performance contexts.
Jimmy’s research and consultancy work in these areas has informed the development of policy and practice of community and professional sport organisations, including; The Football Association’s Charter Standard Programme for grassroots football clubs, The Football Association’s coach education provision, The Football Association’s Respect campaign and, The International Cricket Council of Europe’s participation strategy.
