    Biography

    Jenny qualified as a registered children’s nurse in 2001. She began her nursing career at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital on the High Dependency Unit, gaining a wealth of experience caring for the critically ill child. In 2005, Jenny made the move to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital to the Neurosurgical Unit, here she became Sister and Practice Educator for the ward. A specific interest in training and education brought Jenny to Edge Hill University in 2010 where she undertook a secondment as Clinical Skills Facilitator, whilst studying to become a registered NMC Practice Teacher. In practice at Alder Hey, Jenny used her experience and clinical skills to become a Nurse Practitioner, studying paediatric clinical examination and independant/supplementary prescribing to expand the role. This role also comprised an element of research; Jenny was the lead research nurse for a nationwide clinical randomised control trial related to patients with Hydrocephalus requiring a Ventriculo-Peritoneal shunt.

     

    Jenny took a permanent lecturer’s post within the child health team at Edge Hill University in 2013 and completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education in 2016. Now a Senior Lecturer, she teaches a wide range of sessions and has specific interests in Nursing Children and Young people, the Central Nervous System, acute and critical care, alongside leadership and management. Jenny completed her MSc in Leadership and Management in 2019. Her dissertation centered around the Health and Wellbeing of Student Nurses, implementing a Faculty wide tool for self-referal to Wellbeing services. 

    More recently, Jenny has been involed in writing the newly validated curriculum in her role as Programme Lead for the MSci Dual Award in Nursing. Jenny is also a qualified coach and mentor, affliated with the Institute of Leadership and Management
