    Jayne is a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Science, having joined Edge Hill University in 2015 with a special focus on reproductive biology- namely implantation, placental development and the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD).

    Following a BSc. (Hons) in Anatomical Sciences, Jayne obtained her PhD at the University of Manchester where she studied the role of cytotrophoblast in driving placental vascular development with Prof John Aplin and Prof Melissa Westwood. She subsequently worked in the field of wound healing, with a focus on impaired restoration of diabetic wounds, before returning to Maternal and Fetal Health research to investigate potential treatments for Fetal Growth Restriction.

    Her current research centres on understanding of placental blood vessel formation, placental stem cells, regulators of implantation, pregnancy in polycystic ovary syndrome, prenatal programming and nutrition, with expertise in vitro models of cell function.

    Alongside research, Jayne has a keen interest in Public Engagement in science, having volunteered for many years as a STEM Ambassador and collaborating on the design and delivery of outreach sessions for local schools, colleges and youth groups- in particular the Scout Association.

    Jayne is Module Leader for Level 6 Pathology, and currently contributes to the delivery of Level 4 Biology in Practice and Anatomy and Physiology, Level 6 Advanced Tissue Applications, enjoys hosting Final Year Project students in her lab and has experience in teaching Pharmacology, Current Issues in Biology, Biology of Disease, Genetics for Midwives and MBChB Embryology, Teratogens and Malformations.
