Biography

Chris joined Edge Hill in 2013 as a Graduate Teaching Assistant/Full-Time PhD student, before commencing full time employment at the university in August 2015. Chris was awarded his PhD from Edge Hill University in 2016 having completed his MSc in Football Rehabilitation (2013) at Edge Hill University, Med in Education Practice (2011) at the University of Central Lancashire and BSc (Hons) in Applied Sports Science (2003) at the University of Salford.

Chris is a Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Kinesiology and member of the Sports Therapy team where he lectures on Kinesiology and Research Methods based modules, whilst assisting in the functional rehabilitation clinic. Chris is currently supervising students at both masters and doctoral levels. In addition to this, Chris is currently a member of the department research and retention committees.

Research interests

Chris’ research focuses on the mechanisms of injury in soccer and dance, with specific reference to injury prevention mechanisms and fatigue. Chris has a keen interest in GPS Tri-axial accelerometry and how this can be used in an applied sporting context. Chris currently has research relating to these aforementioned areas published in journals such as Physical Therapy in Sport, Journal of Sport Rehabilitation, Journal of Strength Conditioning and Research and the Journal of Dance Science and Medicine

Chris is currently involved as a co-supervisor for PhD/GTA supervision, investigating the mechanics of dance performance. Chris has also successfully secured internal research funding as a primary investigator, investigating the effects of pitch surface on accumulated and residual soccer-specific fatigue.
