Personal profile
Biography
I am the adaptive teaching and SEND lead in the Department of Primary and Childhood Education at Edge Hill University, a position I feel privileged and passionate about. I am deeply committed to creating an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. My passion lies in ensuring that all learners, regardless of their individual needs, receive tailored support to unlock their full potential. I believe in empowering both students and educators by fostering adaptive teaching practices that are flexible, responsive, and transformative. I am driven to make education accessible, engaging, and equitable for all.
My passion for equality and inclusion led me to diversify from my mainstream teaching career and work with disadvantaged young people, either with Special Educational needs and/or pronounced and multiple learning difficulties and those out of main stream education. This included, young offenders in the justice system, those excluded from main stream or pupil referral units, children in care or those working through mental or physical illness.
My Masters dissertation focussed on the learning trajectories of non-traditional students in order to support retention and belonging. My research interest is in all aspects of social cohesion, social mobility, behaviour, SEND, inclusion and equality. My recent publication examined the promotion of cultural and social capital in early education to support social mobility for children impacted by poverty https://www.proudpen.com/book/emerging-trends-in-early-childhood-education/promoting-cultural-and-social-capital-in-early-education-to-support-social-mobility-for-children-impacted-by-poverty/
I have presented at a number of conferences on subjects including, Children who are looked after, Working in alternative settings, The trajectories of non-traditional students, Using multi-sensory teaching and alternative assessments to support Dyslexic learners, Using technology to support independent learning in Mathematics with a focus on children with SEND.
As an AMBDA-qualified professional, I bring a wealth of expertise and dedication to my role as senior lecturer and Adaptive Teaching and SEND Lead. My commitment is rooted in evidence-based practices and a deep understanding of diverse learning profiles. With a focus on dyslexia and other specific learning differences, I am passionate about implementing tailored strategies that ensure every learner can access the curriculum in a meaningful way. My goal is to empower both students and educators, fostering an inclusive educational environment that celebrates individuality and promotes academic success for all.
