    Personal profile

    Biography

I am an adult and childrens nurse with 20 plus years clinical experience. I have worked in paediatric specialist hospitals across a number of settings including complex care, intensive care, risk management and back care management. I have been teaching across Health and Social Care settings since 2000 and am passionate about including the voice of the patient in all health related educational programmes. Since 2015 I have been the Chair of the Service User and Carer Group in the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine.

    Research interests

My research interests since 2015 have involved studies both in the UK and in India and China looking at both pedagogical methodology in nurse education and also looking at the involvement of patients and care givers in nurse education in India and China. My thesis explored the involvement of patients and care givers in student nurse education in a nursing college in India. I am passionate about research that also involves service users and carers in a meaningful way.

    Teaching

In 2017 I was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship from Advance HE. I am a Senior Teaching and Learning Fellow in my Faculty and and a Prinicipal Lecturer D4 for Advance HE . Since 2016 I have worked with Harbin Medical University China, facilitating the education of student nurses in China. This has meant that I travelled to China three times each semester to teach and was accompanied by two other staff members to whom I mentored. From March 2020 - June 2023 with travel to China prohibited I solely delivered a bespoke live online teaching programme to the nursing students in Harbin. In 2022 I became Adjunct Professor of Manipal Nursing College, Manipal, India, this welcome development proceeded visits to Manipal in 2018,2019 and the initiation of student led webinars between Manipal and Edge Hill from 2020 to date. 2022 saw the first visit where I was able to return to Manipal, this time with four student nurses from Edge Hill for an exciting and informative observership programme. In 2022 the work that I initiated together with my colleague Dr Radhika Pai from Manipal was shortlisted for the partnership award in the Student Nursing Times awards. Since 2015 I have worked tirelessly to develop both an excellent National and International profile of  the Service User and Carer at EdgeHill.  In April 2023 the Service User and Carer group was shortlisted for its partnership work with students. I am a clinical advisor for Cavalry Healthcare and administrator for a tracheostomy support group which has over 1500 members.
