Biography
Kate started her career as an offender learning teacher and then worked in special education in various colleges and adult community education. She became a specialist dyslexia teacher and worked in further education assessing and supporting individuals for dyslexia. She was a consultant for the skills for life (Department of Education and Employment). She delivered sessions to teachers on supporting dyslexic learners. Kate ran her own business as a specialist support teacher and assessor providing support to children with dyslexia in primary and secondary schools and adults in higher education. She still assesses primary, secondary and adults for dyslexia.
Teaching
Kate is currently a lecturer for the Postgraduate Certificate in SpLD (Dyslexia) and the Postgraduate Certificate Education (Dyscalculia). This role includes teaching on the courses and developing the modules. The Dyscalculia course is the first course in the UK to be accredited by the British Dyslexia Association for Associate Teacher Status (ATS). She was the first person to deliver this course.
External engagement
Kate is a committee member for the Wirral dyslexia association where she frequently delivers free awareness courses to parents, teachers and teaching assistants.
