My current research interests are in the field of philosophy of education, in philosophy of higher education, and in public and community philosophy. I have published articles on the nature and aims of the university; pedagogy for higher education; academic literacies and academic writing; conversation in higher education; the place of the university tutorial, and on student engagement, experience and satisfaction. My PhD considered the possibilities for our being literate, and was informed by the philosophy of Martin Heidegger, Stanley Cavell, Emmanuel Levinas and Martin Buber. I have published in leading international journals including the Journal of Philosophy of Education, Ethics and Education, Educational Theory, Philosophy and Theory in Higher Education, and in Studies in Philosophy and Education. I have jointly authored a monograph entitled Philosophy and Theory in Educational Research: Writing in the Margin which was published by Routledge 2016. I was co-editor for a book series with Springer entitled Debating Higher Education: Philosophical Perspectives, and co-edited the volume Philosophers on the University for the series (Springer 2020). I waw lead editor for the (2020) volume, Community and Philosophy: Theories, Practices and Possibilities (for Bloomsbury).
