Dr ALYKHAN KASSAM

Dr Alykhan Kassam is Academic Lead for Learning, Teaching Excellence and Educator Development at Edge Hill University Medical School and an academic pharmacist by background. He holds a number of leadership roles in curriculum design, assessment, and widening participation, and contributes nationally to higher education quality and professional standards through external advisory and regulatory work.

Dr Kassam teaches across various provision in the Medical School including the 5-year Medicine (MBChB), the 6-year Medicine (MBChB with Foundation Year) and the MSc Physician Associate programmes, with a particular focus on integrated clinical sciences, assessment design, and preparation for professional practice. He is actively involved in curriculum and academic leadership, assessment development, moderation, and external examiner liaison. In addition, he leads educator development initiatives that promote inclusive, evidence‑informed teaching.

Dr Kassam’s scholarly interests are in medical education, particularly in preparedness for practice, professional identity, and widening participation. His work focuses on applied, practice‑based educational research that informs curriculum design, quality assurance, and policy, with a clear emphasis on institutional and sector‑level impact. He actively supervises MRes and doctoral students.

Dr Kassam is actively engaged in national work relating to higher education quality and standards in medical and health professions education. His external engagement includes numerous advisory and reference group roles, educator development activity, and policy‑informed contributions that support enhancement across institutions and programmes.
