Description
The Transhistorical Corpus of Written English (TCWE) is a 500,000 word diachronic text corpus developed at Edge Hill University as part of a British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grant funded project which took place at Edge Hill University between 2019–2021. It was directed by Principal Investigator Dr. Imogen Marcus, with the assistance of Research Associate Dr. Ursula Maden-Weinberger. The corpus contains five different genres: sermons and statutes dating from the fifteenth to the twenty-first centuries, letters dating from the fifteenth to twentieth centuries, and emails and instant Whatsapp messages dating from the twenty first century. The corpus can therefore be classed as 'transhistorical', with texts taken from seven centuries, from the medieval period to the present day.
